Designed for history enthusiasts, History Hates You is a game of culture, deception, and tricky historical connections. With 200 unique event cards, players must arrange historical events in the correct chronological order—but watch out! Some themes are bizarre, some events seem strangely similar, and others are pure coincidences designed to make you second-guess yourself.

You might love History but it sure doesn’t love you back, and you need to sort it out. Do you remember when Booth saved Lincoln, when Newton tracked a dildo manufacturer, or how many nuclear bombs the USA dropped on their allies?

Competitive play « History Hates You » A Game of Weaponized Pedantry

All the cards in a series are shown on the table. In clockwise order, each player or team announces a year for the first card, the card is then revealed and each player scores as in hard mode. This is repeated for each card in the series, while taking turns the role of first speaker. Variants In competitive play, reveal a series and have both teams bet on how many cards they can get in the right order. The highest better sorts and then reveals the cards. If they have enough cards in the right spots, they win their bet in points. Otherwise, they lose the amount of the bet plus one per missing card. An experienced player can also play as game master, choosing the series and assigning them to specific players while giving hints from the cards’ backs to help players when needed (or lead them astray, while staying truthful). This is better when playing without points.

La mécanique argumentative de ce jeu de rhétorique pour débattre

Pour gagner, formulez des arguments et faites en sorte qu’ils aillent dans votre pile de vérité. Vous devez construire une argumentation vraisemblable, sans vous soucier de savoir si elle est valide dans sa forme logique, si elle a du sens ou si vous êtes en accord personnellement avec le fond du débat. Vous devez défendre une thèse, si possible qui vous est totalement étrangère, afin d’être détaché du sujet et de vous concentrer sur la formulation d’une argumentation qui a pour objectif de persuader un public imaginaire. Nous ne cherchons pas à savoir qui dit la vérité, mais qui semble avoir raison.

Les cartes d’arguments ont un score marqué en haut à droite, en face du nom de l’argument, qui est aligné à gauche. Pour jouer une carte d’argument, il faut le formuler en disant des phrases et en suivant la forme demandée. Pour chaque point du score de la carte, l’orateur devra utiliser un mot de vocabulaire d’une de ses cartes. La manière dont l’orateur doit faire venir verbalement son argument dans le débat est décrite dans le premier rectangle blanc. Ce sont des indications à suivre sur l’exercice de rhétorique à pratiquer. L’appréciation du respect de la forme des arguments dépendant de la compétence en rhétorique des orateurs, elle est laissée à leur discrétion. Dans le rectangle blanc du bas, il y a des exemples succincts de ce type d’argument.

Après l’épuisement de la très rare première édition (5 ex), un deuxième tirage corrigé et aux règles modifiées a été fait.
